“Memorias Flamencas” comes to us as part of Ida y Vuelta’s Flamenco Fusion Series. Since 2016 Julia Alcantara has been co-producing with various companies in an effort to expand and educate the flamenco fan base in DFW. Each concert was an enlightening and entertaining experience for the cast and audience alike. Now she is pleased to introduce the father of Flamenco Jazz, Jorge Pardo to Dallas, courtesy of the “Elevator Project”, who is assisted in its 2020 production.

jorge pardo - FLUTE AND SAX

Previously recognized as one of the ‘Jovenes Flamencos’, Pardo has been an artist who redefined the genre. Then, flute and saxophone become part of the flamenco world. He recorded with Camaron de la Isla and toured Internationally with Paco de Lucia, shaping his music into a world phenomena. Mr Pardo recently won his first grammy after multiple projects with the late Chick Corea for his contributions to the Latin Jazz CD “Antidote”.

He was awarded Spain’s National Prize for current music, and proclaimed the "Greatest Living Artist" by the French Academy of Jazz in 2012. He has traveled the world with his music and besides recording with thousands of artists world wide, has produced 20 solo CDS.

He has won best Flamenco CD of the year for Djinn and MIRA for Best Jazz Album, are just few of his many accolades…

Our Artistic Director, Julia Alcantara, recently lost her Mother to cancer, this concert will be dedicated to her memory. Her mother's scarves, will be worn as part of the costuming, by dancers and musicians alike. The music and choreography will communicate a powerful message about how cancer affects us as a community in the USA.

Proceeds will be donated to MD Anderson, in Houston, making this show a remarkable production with a unifying message that is sure to inspire the audience. Seven years in the making, this show is an enlightened demonstration of how flamenco is an outlet for our deepest sorrows. This concept makes this concert the most important in our history.

The Cast - Memorias Flamencas is brought to life by an incredible group of dancers and musicians.

During the production process Artistic Director, Julia Alcantara, lost her Mother to cancer,and this concert will be dedicated to her memory. Her scarves worn after chemo and other possessions will be part of the scenery and wardrobe. The music and choreography will communicate a powerful message about how cancer affects us as a community & individuals. Each phase of the story will be eloquently expressed by the different types of flamenco songs, or palos, as it corresponds to the unique phases in our lives and those of the characters.

Kristofer hill “El cuervo”- flamenco/jazz fusion guitarist

A graduate of Arizona State University, studying guitar and composition, Kris had the opportunity to study with Frank Kuntz, Chris Champion, renowned composer Daniel Lentz & performing artist Richard Lehrman. There he developed his skills playing in Jazz combos, composing for modern dance performances, and accompanying ballet & modern dance classes on piano, guitar, and percussion at ASU for 10 years.

It was during this time that he entered the world of flamenco, as a percussionist and touring with CALO Flamenco.Discovering the flamenco guitar and becoming a direct disciple of Juan del Gastor: master and teacher of the legendary Moron style. El Teatro de la Alameda, Caja Negra, and many other venues. He has accompanied dancers and singers such as Carmen Ledesma, Jose Mendez, Javier Heredia in Spain, and in the US, and well as touring and playing guitar for many US flamenco companies.

Guest Dancer: "Paco De Andrea – Bailaor (Male Dancer, Granada)

Francisco Fernández Pérez, better known as "Paco De Andrea", was born in Granada, Spain but grew up in Nice, France. He trained as a flamenco dancer in the tablaos in Granada, where they stand out for their strength and elegance in their dance, he is often compared to Antonio Canales, Los Farrucos and Manolete among others.

In his career he is part of various casts of flamenco, highlighting the company by JuanAndrés Maya, and has made several tours as a soloist in the United States, Japan, Russia, Siberia, Iceland, Germany, France and Mongolia. He is will soon debut his own company in Spain.

Andrea Prieto Rodríguez,

was born in Seville on September 21, 1996. At the age of four she began to dance at the Loida Valle Dance School in Dos Hermanas, where she took ballet and flamenco classes.  At the age of 14, she entered the professional dance conservatory of Seville "Antonio Ruíz Soler" specializing in Flamenco Dance, where she took classes with dancers such as Francis Núñez, Pepa Coral, Miguel Ángel Corbacho, Ana Moya, Carmen Ledesma, Rubén Olmo, among others.  After finishing her professional studies, in 2016 she moved to Malaga to begin her higher studies at the Superior Dance Conservatory of Malaga "Ángel Pericet", where she continued her training in Dance Pedagogy and Flamenco Dance.  In 2017 she will start working in the Malaga Company "Silencio Danza" by Nieves Rosales, where she will be a performer and dancer;  She in the En “El Hueco de Mis Costillas (Hollow of My Ribs) (2017), It does “No Amanece en Génova”  (2018) and Las Furias (2021).  After completing her higher dance studies, she graduated with a Master's Degree in Research and Study of Flamenco.
